Day 2 & 3 - Bitter End Yacht Club & Saba Rock

Day 2 was the Bitter End Challenge Race. Skippers gathered on the flagship at 10
a.m. to discuss the race and strategy. The Commodore was standing by the GPS time
display to determine who was late and administer the appropriate punishment. Scott
Lawliss was the only person to arrive after 10 and was delivered his medicine, a spoonful
of Mt Gay Rum. Then the race started and with 30 knots on the nose, it was a wild
beat. By the time boats turned at Musquito Rock, everyone was glad to be in the calm
waters of North Sound. The first team to have their picture taken under the MYC
burgee at the Bitter End Yacht Club was the winner and Howard's J/120 finished first
again. That evening, there was an impromptu cocktail party on Zander Lassen's 505.
Quite a lot of fun and according to rumor, more than a few things happened.
Dudley Ryan checked in to a plush room at BEYC. The next day was for resting in
North Sound. Some sailors went sailing on the Hobies and others went on a scuba
trip. On the second night, Hugh Lassen's Atoll, nicknamed the "school
bus," held the pre-dinner cocktail party. Then everyone headed to Saba Rock for
a buffet dinner. The joint was rocking like never before and the owner of Saba Rock
was heard that evening saying, "Thank heavens for Manhattan!"
