Photos - Day 3 Saba Rock
Today, we had a day in the Caribbean with a light schedule. This meant rest, sun bathing, relaxing and walking around quietly. Some of us excelled in this environment. Others had to keep moving. Some went snorkeling, some went sailing, some went exploring. The enjoyment of the Caribbean could be summed up in a simple memory, where we you at 12 noon on that day? We were in search of lunch ashore, sitting on stools beneath a roof as some rain fell. Then it cleared and the sun returned. At 2 p.m. that afternoon, some of the more intrepid sailors rigged Lasers for a competition. First was the 3 person race, then the two person race and finally the single-handed race. Course were kept mercifully short with Isabella as the turning mark upwind (either direction in the Caribbean spirit). The sail down to the finish line, being manned by RC Chairman Ted Wallace was relaxing. Then the crew drop off onto the waiting dinghies and another race. We rafted up the 3 catamarans, never done before and maybe never done again. Even the Moorings captain who was concerned about this maneuver understood the importance and agreed. Just for 1 hour. As fleeting as the afternoon rain shower. As fleeting as our trip. As fleeting as many things in life. Then to Saba Rock. Edward Newman proclaimed things to be going slightly ahead of schedule (but Anegada was the next day). The band. Steel drums began to ring up from the end of the bar. A beat. And soon, slowly, one by one, members were drawn in. First the body began swaying, watching the others as they dipped and moved. Then the hands and finally the feet. The Regatta had arrived on the dance floor of Saba Rock as almost everyone joined in, each with their own ideas, style, rhythm and purpose. But we were together, in a small space, in a small part of the world, with nothing between us and the sky. The general manage of Saba Rock is David Brick and his email is SabaRockGM@aol.com in case you wish to drop him a note of thanks.)
