Message from New York Harbor Sailing Foundation

by John LaGrassa, President

It is our pleasure to help organize the Dennis Conner International Yacht Club Challenge.

Dennis is one of the most famous sailors in the world.

By being the patron of this event, he is lending his support to the cause of international goodwill through friendly competition.

The New York Harbor Sailing Foundation's mission is to foster and promote amateur sailing of national and international importance in New York Harbor.

Our harbor is experiencing a renaissance. Recreational sailing has returned after an absence of many decades.  The New York Harbor Sailing Foundation is helping to lead the way.

By bringing important sailing events to the harbor, the Foundation is increasing the awareness of all New Yorkers in our great recreational resource.

Every year we organize the Sailors Ball, a big social event to celebrate the start of the new sailing season.

Beginning in 1998, we have been organizing a bi-annual Lady Liberty Regatta which brings together some of the best women sailors in the country for a competition in front of the Statue of Liberty.

In 1999, we organized an International Sandbagger Series which will brought together some yacht clubs from around the world to race in New York Harbor.

In 2005, our Foundation also helped establish the Atlantic Cup for the Single-Handed Trans-Atlantic Record.

Today, we also organize an Annual Regatta for the City Council plus help with a Teen Sailing Program and other events.
