Dennis
Conner International Yacht Club Challenge Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the first Dennis Conner International Yacht Club Challenge. This will be an exciting event with sailors from around the world. Following are the Volunteer Opportunities (more opportunities may be defined later so please check back): 1. Club
Reps Details on each of these opportunities are listed below. Thank you for your interest! 1. Club Reps on Each Boat This is an opportunity for Manhattan Sailing Club members to actually sail with the teams. Because visiting nations will be using our fleet, the club will have one representative on each boat. The role of the representative is to provide local knowledge and safety oversight. Reps are also asked top bring a VHF radio to help communicate with the Race Committee. Ideally, club reps would be skipper members who have the most experience. However, this is a long regatta and there will be sailing during the day from Tuesday through Saturday. So, it is likely that we will not have enough skipper volunteers to cover all boats. Therefore, it is likely that regular members will also have an opportunity to serve as club reps on some days. Club reps will be assigned to one boat. Your job is to make sure the boat is ready (hose it down so it is clean, pump it out, etc). Teams will race on different boats each race. The reps will stay with their boat so they will have an opportunity to sail with multiple teams over the course of the regatta. Reps are allowed to provide advise, but not allowed to do major items like trim the sheets. These items must be done by the competitors. In the case of two boats coming together in a situation which might be considered a foul, reps will be counted on for their impartial interpretation of the situation. If you would like to be considered as a club rep, please complete this form below. Priority will be given to skipper members and then members who can commit the most number of days. I would like to be considered for the position of Club Rep: 2. Social Reps Sailing enthusiasts are needed to make the social experiences of the international teams enjoyable. We are currently working to finalize the social schedule and once details are set, we will publish what the positions and dates. Our goal is to make our visiting sailors understand why we are nicknamed "the city that never sleeps." I would like to volunteer as a Social Rep:
3. Race Committee Volunteers are needed to help administer the races. This will include running starting and finishing operations on the clubhouse, setting and moving marks from our boat and doing other race committee duties as they may arise. We depart the dock at 11:15 a.m. every morning and return around 5 p.m. There will be a launch going back and forth from the clubhouse all day as well. I would like to volunteer for Race Committee:
4. Photographers We would like to create a good visual record of the first Dennis Conner International Yacht Club Challenge. If we are successful, the photos can be combined into a commemorative book which can be purchased by the visiting teams after the competition. If you like to take pictures, we encourage you to volunteer as a photographer. You do not need to be a professional photographer in order to participate. You just need a good digital camera and to be in the right place at the right time. We will maintain a list of photographers who are interested in helping and then set a schedule so that all days and all events are covered. I would like to volunteer as a Photographer: |
