Sail Patrol

The Sail Patrol concept is borrowed from the ski industry.  Experienced skiers volunteer their time to serve on a “Ski Patrol.”  The Ski Patrol assists on the mountain, encouraging safe skiing and helping skiers if they have problems.

Our club has adopted this concept to sailing.  Sail Patrol Members skipper J/24s in the Fleet Captain Program.  While on the water, they serve as additional eyes and ears for the Club to encourage safe boating.  On the boat, they demonstrate safe boating techniques and practice these with other members, increasing the education and experience of the club.  You will recognize members of the Sail Patrol who wear distinctive yellow Sail Patrol shirts.

Members of the Sail Patrol Program commit to do at least 6 Fleet Captain Sails per month.  Club Skipper Fees are waived for members of the Sail Patrol.  The Sail Patrol is open to 20 sailors.  Candidates are interviewed and selected by the Commodore.  To be considered as a member of the Sail Patrol, you need to be an experienced skipper as well as an enthusiastic educator.  To apply to be a member of the Sail Patrol, please send an email to mike@myc.org.
