We usually charter our boats from Moorings and Sunsail. Their base is located in Roadtown on the island of Tortola. This is the most amazing gathering of charter boats you will ever see!
If you are lucky, you can fly in on Friday, and relax that evening on the island before we get our boats on Saturday at 6 pm. Or if you are too busy, you can fly down on Saturday morning and get there in time to board our boats that evening.
There are two main ways to get to the British Virgin Islands for De Caribbean Regatta.
#1 – Fly first to St Thomas and take a ferry to the BVIs.
Pros – only 1 flight, usually cheaper option, usually gets you to Tortola quicker, you can order a pina colada at the Pump House while waiting for the ferry.
Cons – if your flight gets delayed, you can get stuck on St Thomas for the night (plenty of hotels), you have a 1 hour ferry ride which can be bumpy in high winds.
#2 – Fly to Beef Island on Tortola and take a taxi to the Moorings base.
Pros – you fly all the way to Tortola, although you will need to switch to a small plane, usually in Puerto Rico.
Cons – A little more expensive and you spend more time in the airports.
When you Arrive at the Moorings Base
When you arrive at the Moorings base, we recommend the time honored tradition of jumping into the water to “wash away your winter blues and all the stress and pressure of New York City.”
There is also a great outdoors bar at the Mooring base plus you can get a hamburger or fish sandwich at the bar.
