Back in 2002, during the Second Caribbean Regatta, our yacht club put up a trophy for the Royal BVI Yacht Club and the West End Yacht Club to compete for each year. Starting around 2007, the Manhattan Yacht Club joined the competition to compete as well.
Now the Manhattan Yacht Club Trophy Race is held every year on the final Saturday of De Caribbean Regatta, Members of both local clubs come over to Norman Island on Saturday morning and we race as a fleet back to the Moorings base.
We encourage you to find a hotel and spend the final Saturday night in Tortola. Then fly back to the US on Sunday. This way, you will be able to compete in the Trophy Race, plus hang out at the Moorings bar for a beer or pina colada on Saturday afternoon. Then on Saturday evening, we will all be invited to the Royal BVI Yacht Club clubhouse for dinner and the trophy presentation.
And in 2025, we are going to try and add one more tradition – the Final Night Discothèque. We will bring our sound system and request permission to turn the RBVIYC clubhouse into a magical event, our final night, a little more dancing to all of the music we have discovered over the course of the week. And as the final night, well, who knows how late it will go? Don’t miss this perfect end to the greatest sailing vacation of our life.
